Dance
Festival smashes all previous records
The 2010 dance festival has
broken all previous records presenting 35 dance performances by over 600
children from primary, secondary and special schools across West Wiltshire.
Over 1000 family and friends were treated to a spectacular selection of dances
during the two evenings at The Bath Forum.
This year's theme, "The
Magic of Disney" featured dance interpretations to music from classics such
as Alice in Wonderland, Pinocchio, Lion King, Mary Poppins and
more.
Chris Bell, West
Wilts SSP Development Manager, said "The standard is extraordinarily high and
is getting better every year. We moved the venue to The Forum so that nobody
would be disappointed and every ticket request could be fulfilled."
The
hard work of students, teachers and sports co-ordinators was also acknowledged
with special thanks going to organiser, Caroline Newman, WWSSP Dance Coach.
James Evans, Director of Specialism at Kingdown and Wednesday's Compère
said " All the parents can be extremely proud of their sons' and daughters'
achievements."

The semi finals were both close games
with Westbury schools winning both games. The final was nail biting with
neither team able to dominate and both goal keepers keeping a clean sheet.
Extra time was played and each team scored the maximum 3 goals in the penalty
shoot out. It was eventually decided on the 5th penalty shoot out, with Bitham
Brook taking the top spot over their close neighbours, Westbury Leigh. Both
teams should be congratulated on a thrilling performance.

West Wiltshire Primary School Girls
6-A-Side Football Tournament
Eight teams took
part in the West Wiltshire Girls Football Tournament held at The George Ward
School in Melksham
The competition started as two leagues of four with
the winners of each league scheduled to meet in the final match.
All
the matches in League A proved to be closely fought but in the end, Bellefield
of Trowbridge managed to win all of their three games. Although more goals were
scored in League B the winners would have to go through only on goal
difference. Christchurch (Bradford on Avon) and Grove (Trowbridge) were clearly
the strongest teams in the group and the game between them resulted in a 0-0
stalemate. Grove finished their games with a goal difference of seven and going
into the last league game, Christchurch knew that to qualify, they would have
to score five against a plucky Emmaus side. After scoring four there was a
nail-biting wait as time was running out and a penalty shoot-out seemed a
possibility to decide who would qualify.
Then in the last minute of the game, another Christchurch
shot hit the back of the net to give them a place in the final. In the
final, Christchurch created the greater number of scoring opportunities and
managed to finish with two of their chances to run out deserving winners of the
tournament Results

Orienteering Event - 1st
& 2nd October
Due to the popularity of the Orienteering
event this year we held it over 2 days.
30 schools and 250 students took
part. Orienteers from the Sarum and North Wilts Clubs helped with the
day.
The day consisted of schools coming at intervals, getting
instruction, doing introductory routes followed by a timed course. The
enthusiasm of the students was infectious and both days were lovely Autumn
days, a great mix making an excellent event
Matt Andrews, who organised
the days, should be congratulated on a memorable event.

Welcome to the partnership, Phil. The bar is getting
higher.

Warminter Town Park on 15th July to participate in a variety of activities.
This was organised by the West Wilts Schools Sports Partnership, based at
Kingdown School.

included taking pedaloes on the lake, skate boarding in the skate park, golf on
the play and put area, boxercise, tennis, basketball, frisbee, sumo wrestling
and gladiators.
A number of passers-by commented that this is the way the park

West Wilts SSP Girls' Cricket
Tournament Success
Five schools from the West Wilts School
Sports Partnership competed in the ECB Girls' Cricket Tournament hosted by
Trowbridge Cricket Club.
Wylye Valley, St. John's RC, Christchurch,
Heytesbury & Winsley primary schools played on a beautiful sunny day but
the blustery wind often made bowling difficult. Despite this all five teams
played some increasingly impressive cricketSpecial mention must go to
Christchurch School from Bradford-on-Avon who fielded a squad of mostly year 4
pupils who proved themselves to be determined cricketers.
In a closely fought competition
three teams won 3 of their 4 games and results went down to the total runs
scored.
This meant that Winsley won the tournament by 8 runs from
Heytesbury and these two teams go through to the Wiltshire County Finals also
held at Trowbridge Cricket Club on Friday 26th June.
All competitors
received certificates from the ECB and the winning teams received t-shirts
too.
Organisers Sam Francis-Clarke & Matt Andrews (SSCos for
Trowbridge) said "a big thank you to Trowbridge Cricket Club, all the teams,
teachers, parents & the young umpires from St. Augustine's College for
making it a very enjoyable & sporting afternoon".
