Your sponsorship helps Caroline Newman
conquers the Three Peaks
Thank you to everyone who sponsored me and sent Emails of support,
during my 3 Peaks Challenge early July.
My team and I successfully
completed the challenge in an AMAZING 21hrs:36mins, which I still can't
believe! We were the first all-girl team back and are waiting to find out if we
were fastest! We received a GOLD
MEDAL.
The temperature on Ben Nevis was -25, the conditions
were treacherous with snow. The full cloud cover was the worst in 10 years.
Scar Fell was like walking up a slag heap. It's only the walking distance of
from Warminster to Heytesbury but took the longest. In contrast, we all got
sunburnt on Snowdonia.
We had an amazing time. It was a wonderful
experience and I would encourage anyone to do it - but with a little more
training than the 4 weeks preparation that I had.
Anyone still wishing to add
their sponsorship can do so either by dropping their loose change (or sizeable
cheques!) in the collection bucket located in the Partnership office at
Kingdown or stop me if you see me. All the donations are going to the RUH
Cancer Care unit and to Retired and Injured Fire Fighters.
Thanks for
all your support

Gym Competition - 2008
20
gymnastics teams from schools all over the West Wilts Partnership took part in
the annual gymnastics competition which was again superbly organised by Shane
Kiely.
The teams all did floor routines and vaults. In between warm ups
and competition they were supervised by young volunteers and coaches on the
trampoline, the beam, mini trampoline and other gymnastic
activities.
After their lunch they were able to watch the elite gymnasts
in their competition before the final results were announced.
On Monday 3rd March, 10 Primary Schools from
all over West Wltshire took part in a hockey tournament on Kingdown School's
astro turf.
Young volunteers from Kingdown and officials from West
Wiltshire Hockey Club umpired all the matches. The teams were in 2 pools of 5
and then the 2 pool winners went on to the final. Most of the games were very
close however there were 2 clear league winners.
The final was between Bowerhill Primary School from
Melksham and Minster Primary School from Warminster. Bowerhill scored an early
goal but just before the end of the match, after a period of prolonged
pressure, Minster scored the equalising goal. The 2 teams shared the trophy and
both will represent West Wiltshire at the County Finals on the 19th
May.

2008 Dance Festival was a
sell-out During two evenings in Februray, 600 parents, relatives and
friends packed the West Wiltshire Music Centre to its limit to be entertained
by 400 students of all age groups representing 30 schools throughout the
region. This year's theme was "A night at the movies".
Creative
choreography, polished performances and stunning costumes all culminated in two
hours of thoroughly enjoyable and captivating entertainment.
The
performances featured interpretations of British-made films as well as
International productions from Hollywood to Bollywood taking in such classics
as "Singing in the Rain", "Dirty Dancing" and "James Bond" to "Little Mermaid",
"Harry Potter" and many more. "This festival has grown in popularity
over the past three years and is becoming a showpiece for the Partnership" said
Chris Bell, Partnership Development Manager. "What's really important are the
huge benefits this brings to the students and we're extremely grateful to
everyone who contributes so much to this event."
The partnership
commissioned its own professionally produced video DVD. Anyone wishing to
purchase a copy is asked to
place their order and send it to the
Partnerhsip
Office. Available only whilst stocks last.

West Wilts SSP Football Finals -
2008
The winners of all the West Wilts football leagues met
at Kingdown on Monday 4th February. They all played each other in a league. The
event was organised and refereed by students from Kingdown
School.
Aloeric School from Melksham were the clear winners, being
undefeated in all their matches. The runners up spot was a very closely fought
affair and not decided until the last round of matches when a win for
Princecroft meant they took the runners up position.
On 28th January we held a
6-a-side football festival at John of Gaunt for those students who don't
normally make the school football teams.
Congratulations to everyone. It
was a really great event.

How fit are you? Four of our schools
get a special treat in January
The Freddy Fit roadshow visited
the West Wiltshire Partnership. On the 29th January they were at Shaw Primary
School, the 30th at Larkrise Special School and on the 31st at the village
schools of Wingfield and Westwood.
Davi, the presenter, was a bundle of
energy and really knew how to involve the children. His 'A Day in The Life'
with its message of healthy eating and exercise might be a good way to launch
'Healthy School Week'.

West Wilts Schools Sport Partnership
Orienteering Event On Wednesday 26th
September the West Wilts Sports Partnership held their annual Orienteering
Event at Brokers Wood Country Park. About 160 children from 21 West Wiltshire
Schools took part in the event. When the children arrived they received
instruction about how to read the map and locate the control points where they
had to punch their cards. After finishing the practice route they tackled the
blue or the green course. When they had completed these initial courses they
moved to another part of the wood for a more challenging course which was a
timed event.
All the courses and the event was organised by Matt
Andrews. Two Orienteerers from the Bath Orienteering Club were able to come and
assist the school sport coordinators in the running of the day. Everyone who
took part thoroughly enjoyed the day.
Approximately 80 teachers
comprising of SSCo's and PLT's from all participating schools attended the
annual PLT conference at Bradford on Avon on 12th September to review plans and
strategies for the coming academic year. "It's great to get everyone
together...." commented Chris Bell, Partnership Manager, "....Everyone
is really geared up and ready to engage the students in a whole range of
exciting activities."
