(Cadburys) Kraft South West U11
District Associations 2010 Finals
On Saturday 27th March, West Wiltshire represented
Wiltshire at the SW Schools finals at (Cadburys) Kraft in Keynsham.
The
boys were drawn in the toughest of group. Only the winner would represent the
South West at the National finals.
We first played against Dorset
winning 1-0. We then went on to play Bristol and Cornwall. Our final game was
against Oxfordshire, which we had to win by several goals to become winner of
our group. A creative team-plan put us 1 goal up but 2 breakaway goals led to a
2-1 defeat.
Managers and members of the ESFA gave praise for the style
the boys played with. This was nice to hear and will make them better players.
We're looking forward to a couple of wins soon.
Those boys going to Holland today learnt the
same lesson as the Bath boys, that in a competitive short game you should
always look to pass forwards first and you need to take your
chances.
This is an abbreviated report.

Trowbridge Schools Years 3 & 4
Football Festival
eight primary schools from the Trowbridge area
gathered at the John of Gaunt School for a year 3 /4 football festival. Each
school brought four boys and four girls who were split into mixed groups of
eight giving everyone an opportunity to meet students from other
schools.
Sports Leaders and Junior Football Organisers from the John of
Gaunt School organised many of the activities and coached the years 3 & 4
students. They spent 10minutes at each station rotating round a carousel of
four football related skilled games including passing, dribbling, shooting
control and teamwork. Each group then split into two teams of four to play some
mini football friendly games.
Despite cold hands and red noses everyone
enjoyed the event including the brave teachers who gave up their evening to
bring the children along.
Many thanks to West Ashton, Newtown, North
Bradley, Staverton, The Grove, Westwood-with-Iford, St Johns and Paxcroft for
their support of the event.

Hilperton Claim Historic Double !
In the Small
schools football Hilperton claimed their 2nd title of the year beating Keevil
in a thrilling climax to the season to take the league championship along with
their Trowbridge schools cup from earlier this term. It was a fitting end to
what has developed into a tremendously competitive football league with highs
and low points for all teams involved.
After winning their penultimate
fixtures against West Ashton both teams lined up knowing that 3 points would
secure the title and guaranteed Premiership status for the 2010 season.
Hilperton
struck an early blow when a long-range effort caught the Keevil keeper cold and
found its way into the net. Keevil immediately responded with a host of
opportunities created from some excellent attacking football. Midfielder Beth K
linked well with her teammates to create chance after chance for the Keevil
forward line but some excellent goalkeeping and defending from the leagues
meanest defence kept them at bay. Shortly after, the sucker punch came with two
goals on the break as Hilperton pressed home their advantage whilst Keevil
continued to attack. At the final whistle both teams were incredibly sporting
and gracious as Hilperton took the plaudits for a well-deserved second time
this term.
Elsewhere a remarkable turnaround in
fortunes saw North Bradley leap from 6th to 3rd place with two excellent wins.
They have been threatening this all season and finally got it right on the
night to earn a place in the top half. Meanwhile Holt took everyone by surprise
by squeezing into second with their usual workman like performances to earn a
win and a draw on the night. Southwick and Long Meadow found the going tough
but played as if their lives depended on it until the very end. The spirit
amongst both teams was superb and with a little more experience they are
certain to have a say in the title race next year.
Congratulations to
everyone, we hope to see you next year with an 'Exciting NEW format' for the
league. |

Premier League - Table turned as Paxcroft steal
title !
After the rollercoaster ride of the previous three
weeks nobody could have expected a quiet last day in the Premier League. With
four schools still in a position to win the title and no team safe from
relegation there was to be one final twist in the tail. Wallwayne looked like
relegation fodder in week 3 with no points and no goals scored but served up
the biggest surprise of the day in beating the two top placed teams The Mead
and Newtown 2-0 moving them up to 2nd in the league. A shell-shocked Newtown
failed to recover from their opening game defeat at the hands of Paxcroft
leaving them at the foot of the table and a place in the Championship beckoning
for 2010. However they should be commended for their sporting behavior and
tremendous achievements over the weeks. With the top teams all dropping points,
nobody noticed a highly motivated Paxcroft slowly turning the screw on their
rivals. One draw and a win was all it took to steal the title in dramatic
fashion although they had to wait until the final whistle of the
Wallwayne-Newtown game to be certain of their status as the large schools top
team!
Championship - St John's Double
Delight !
With Staverton unable to attend the final night
therefore giving Bellefield a 4-0 'walkover' victory it was left to St Johns
and Studley Green to slug it out for the Championship title and promotion back
to the Premiership for 2010. St Johns required a five goal margin from this
game to finish ahead of Bellefield and set about achieving this in emphatic
style by racing into a 4 goal lead in the first half. With one more goal
required nerves crept in and a more cautious approach yielded two goals and the
cushion they desired. Two very sporting teams applauded each other as St Johns
stepped up to the podium to accept their Championship medals and a deserved
place in the Premiership with Bellefield for next year.
Congratulations
to Staverton and Studley Green for their fantastic approach to football this
year. With another years experience we fully expect them to be battling it out
with the top dogs! With the fixtures done and dusted all three teams decided
they had enough energy for one final friendly game with saw Bellefield and St
Johns neck and neck once again. |

Year 6 Pupils Score a
Rounder
The Clarendon College hosted a "pilot" Rounders Festival
for year 6 leavers on the 2nd July.
The festival was run by Junior Sports Leaders with help from Sam
Francis-Clarke (SSCo) and was aimed at allowing year 6 pupils to meet others
who will be attending the same secondary school through playing some fun games
of rounders.
Groups of 8 pupils from West Ashton, Bellefield, The Mead
and Paxcroft arrived on a very hot afternoon on the Clarendon College playing
fields and were sorted into teams dependent on which secondary school they will
be moving up to.
They then played two games of rounders using full rules
and officiated by Junior Sports Leaders. The pupils' understanding of the rules
improved dramatically during the festival and a few striking & fielding
sports stars were identified too.
Refreshments were available in the
break and luckily a nice breeze blew up out of nowhere to relieve the
oppressive heat.
Thanks go to all the staff and parents who
made it possible for the festival to go ahead and to the Clarendon College PE
Staff for their assistance.
Look out for a Rounders Festival at both the
Clarendon College & John of Gaunt School next summer!

Trowbridge Schools Make a
Splash
Trowbridge Schools battled it out in the pool for a place
in the West Wilts Finals on the 26th June.
In the
morning 5 small schools made Clarendon Pool ring with their enthusiastic shouts
as children from years 3,4,5 and 6 from West Ashton, Keevil,
Westwood-with-Iford, Hilperton and Holt schools competed in individual &
relay events.
Special mention to Holt who competed with only year 5
& 6 swimmers as the younger swimmers were away on a trip. Hilperton came
home in third place, Westwood-with-Iford in second & Keevil went through to
the West Wiltshire Finals to represent Trowbridge.
In the afternoon it
was large schools' turn and again it was an enthusiastic affair with teams from
Bellefield, St. John's RC, Holbrook, Staverton and Walwayne Court
schools.
Again special mention to Staverton who competed with only year
5 & 6 swimmers as the younger swimmers were also away on a trip. Holbrook
came third overall, with Walwayne Court second and St.John's RC going through
to the WW Finals
The new Trowbridge Large Schools' Cup was presented
courtesy of the Stevenson Family whose children attend St.John's RC school
& Trowbridge Swimming Club.
Thanks go to all the competitors,
parents & schools staff, KS3 Young Leaders and Year 12 students from
Clarendon College and officials from Trowbridge Swimming Club. All participants
received certificates to document their achievements.
