WWSSP
Trowbridge Large Schools Netball League
For the first time the
league has been run in partnership between WWSSP, Bradford-on-Avon Netball Club
and the John of Gaunt School.
The league was run by Julie Abbott and
helpers (Cath & Elly) from BoA Netball Club and umpired by Young Netball
Organisers (YNOs) from the John of Gaunt School. This has been a very rewarding
partnership, which we hope to continue and develop in the future.
All
players were skillful, courteous & sportsman-like throughout, improving
their play and understanding as the league progressed. Many parents &
helpers turned out being supportive & enthusiastic.

Trowbridge Area Tag Rugby
Festival
Congratulations to the 120 + players from 12 schools who
participated in the Trowbridge Tag Rugby Festival on the 14th
November.
It was a great afternoon of rugby, hosted by Trowbridge Rugby
Club and allowed children an opportunity to develop their tag rugby skills
& knowledge in a fun but competitive environment.
The afternoon
kicked off with a round-robin section where schools were randomly put into
pools and finished with a performance-based session where schools played others
who were matched according to the number of tries scored in the round-robin
section.
Our thanks to staff, children and supporters from all schools
for ensuring that the afternoon was a big success.
Also thanks to Chris
Lamb & Jude Havranek from
Trowbridge
RFC, Paul Lovett from Frome RFC, James Wain and Kelly from Trowbridge Town
Council, Matt Andrews, Nicola Kurtze and Chris Bell from the WWSSP.

Trowbridge Small Schools Netball
League
The small schools netball league has been successfully
taking place in the sportshall at the John of Gaunt School over the past few
weeks and for the first time the league has been run in partnership between
WWSSP, Bradford-on-Avon Netball Club and the John of Gaunt
School.
Although organised by Sam Francis, SSCo for Clarendon College,
the league itself has been run by Julie Abbott and helpers from BoA Netball
Club and umpired by Young Netball Organisers (YNOs) from the John of Gaunt
School. This has been a very rewarding partnership which we hope to continue
and develop in the future.
The League was contested by 4 schools that
played each other twice in all. There was a range of netball skills on show and
all players were courteous & sportsman-like throughout. As the league went
on the less-experienced teams showed a great deal of improvement in their play
& understanding. Many parents & helpers turned out to support their
teams and the atmosphere was very much a supportive & enthusiastic
one.
The results were as in the table below, with quite a battle for the
top place ensuing between West Ashton & Holt primary
schools.
Congratulations to West Ashton who will go forward to represent
Trowbridge at the West Wilts SSP Hi 5 Netball Finals on Monday 10th March 2008,
along with the winning large school from Trowbridge. The top 3 schools from
this tournament will then qualify for the Wilts County Hi 5 Finals on the 20th
March 2008.
A big thank you to all the players, staff, parents, BoA
netball club members & YNOs for making this such a positive
event.

Sainsbury's 6-a-side Girls Football
Tournament
Organised together with Clarendon Cluster,
John of Gaunt School hosted the West Wilts Girls 6-A-Side Football Tournament
on its all-weather facility on a perfect October evening. Schools from across
the Partnership arrived early to take advantage of last minute coaching and
shooting practice.
The Pool stages kicked off at 4.15pm, officiated by
Year 12 students from St. Augustines Catholic College and overseen by Mr James
Wain from Trowbridge Town Council. Competition was fierce and matches full of
tension. Players and spectators ensured a fantastic atmosphere where football
was the winner. After three 10 minute games Westbury Leigh and Bowerhill topped
their Pools and went into a play-off final. Sambourne and Dilton Marsh came
second in their Pools and played off for 3rd place, which was eventually won by
Sambourne.
The final witnessed the game of the Tournament. In a
nail-biting encounter Bowerhill just overcame a worthy Westbury Leigh to be
crowned Champions. Results Sheet - POOL 1
