Lions Warminster & Westbury
7-a-side Football Tournament The Warminster & Westbury primary schools held their
annual 7-a-side football tournament on Monday 22nd March. The tournament was
refereed and organised by the Young Leaders from Kingdown School. Even though
conditions were very wet there was still much enthusiasm and skill on
view. At the end of the first rounds, when they played in leagues, the
semi finalists were Westbury Leigh, Avenue, Bitham Brook and St. Georges. It
was the Westbury duo of Bitham Brook and Westbury Leigh who were triumphant and
made it the first all Westbury Final in the 40 years that the competition had
been running. The final was a tense affair with play going from end to end.
Both teams scored a single goal so we entered extra time. Suddenly Westbury
Leigh scored a goal and then 2 more in quick succession to win 4-1.
The medals and trophies were presented by Ray Harper,
President of Warminster Lions Club. The Lions Club have supported this event
for all 40 years of its duration. Updated March 2010
